Going Against the Grain

Exploring is Learning

The role of the teacher is to create the conditions for invention rather than provide ready made knowledge.

Full engagement of students during the teaching and leaning process is evidence that student centered lessons are present. The C.O.V.A. Model is a constructive approach to learning that enables students and teachers to focus on the learning itself. If you are seeking a model that is sure to engage all learners, I know the COVA model is for you. Students fail to engage because the lesson has no value to them. Todd Rose stated, People are happiest when they have control over everything that's important to them. Student feel happy when they have control of what they learn and how they learn it. Traditional education believes students should be presented with information with the understanding that it will be regurgitated according to what the teacher deems important. Constructive learning, which is what the COVA model follows suggest other wise. The COVA model presents students with chioce in how to learn, ownership and control of learning, voice that shares new knowledge and connections made authentically. 100% full student engagement equals student centered learning.
