EdTech in 2020

A Digital Start
Beginning the 2020-2021 school year is nothing short of unfamiliar. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only opened eyes to new sanitation regulations but, it has also created an uncomfortable virtual transition for many students, teachers and parents. Though there is much uncertainty for what the new school year brings, I believe as educators there are two factors we should focus on. First factor I believe we should focus on is the mindset. Goals and tasked are accomplished when the mind believes success can be attained. Actions align to the mindset not the other way around. A tool that I believe will aid in developing a positive mindset is growth mindset plan. Creating a growth mindset plan will inspire you to learn new skills even during emotionally frustrating times. The Second factor I believe we should focus on is practical application. When the country went on an unexpected lock down, we were caught off guard leaving teachers and students lacking confidence and technology skills to support effective teaching and learning. Now that we have time to prepare, it's up to us as educators to take ownership of our blended learning skills. Creating Significant Learning Environments and Experiences for students require stepping outside the comfort zone to address the steep learning curve and challenges of virtual learning. This is where confidence increases.
I encourage all educators leading virtual learning environments to explore multiple ed tech platforms to expand exposure and practical knowledge of each. Once you have found a 3-4 that spark interest, pick a favorite based on functionality. Learn more about that platform with the expectation to utilize during the coming school year. Pick two more platforms that can create authentic learning experiences and learn more about their functionality.
My district operates virtual learning environments through Microsoft Teams. As I explored ed tech platforms, I chose my top three based on collaboration and feedback functionality. Learning about each has turn my dread into excitement. Click on the picture to learn more about my favorite ed tech platforms that I will be implementing in the up coming year.
Professional Development
Daily routines are something all teachers should have. In my first four years of teaching I struggled to generate fresh, fun, and executable activities that kept my students engaged 100% of instructional time. Most educators within the first five years struggle with the same or similar concerns. The teacher toolkit and lead4ward are great tools to assist you on this journey. Whether backwards planning or developing a playlist, both will assist you with creating the structure and authentic learning experiences for your students. Hover and click the link to explore more. Good luck!
