Why E. portfolios?

Setting the Stage for Future Endeavors

Philosopher, John Dewey challenged and promoted the idea of educators rising to the occasion of helping students realize their potential and skill strengths to build a better society. As a 21st century educator, I believe technological advances have provided multiple platforms that aid in CSLE (creating structured learning environments) which drive learning success. Social media, blogs, and any electronic formats that show case learning and collaboration overtime have proven to help students realize their potential and skill strengths that enable learners taking control of their learning. E. portfolios also known as websites or digital domains assist teachers and students during the journey of achieving such task of learning potential and strong skills. As learners actively engage in COVA, students can show personal charter and passion towards learning and thinking. Organized evidence of learning is displayed within the E. portfolio helps provide opportunities for learners to engage in global collaboration and networking. This practice provides the learner with opportunities to share passion and thoughts with the world. This approach of authentic learning, reflective learning becomes much clear to the learner revealing skill strengths and potential attained. Overtime, the E. portfolio is an essential tool that learners can utilize to reflect and attain a new depth of learning. When learners experience such occurrences their expectations of themselves during the learning journey, confidence and self-esteem increases.

E. portfolios are important because it is a living domain that connects learners to others who have learned. E. portfolios show case skills and abilities. If someone wants to know what you know, an Eportfolio becomes the essential communication tool that has the capacity to show what you know and how you know it. Building my E. portfolio has caused me to experience many emotions of uncertainty and fear of not being able to complete an E. portfolio efficiently. Because I am so eager to learn with the expectation to teach others instructional technology effective practices, I continue with tenacity. As I spend more time experimenting and practicing implementation, my confidence and skills build continuously. I am able to see my grow daily as I am visually able to see evidence of growth and accomplishments. Establishing my why motivated me to keep going and experimenting. These same emotions that I have experienced will be an experience to draw from as I facilitate, coach and mentor future learners through E. portfolio process.
